Yeah, that does seem like a lot at first glance, but as long as it helps flesh out the story, then it's fine by me.
And like you said, when you compare it to 40+hours of gameplay, it's not that bad at all.

The only thing Alan Wake will "blur" is it's graphics because the 360 has to use those kinds of "tricks" to make the games look half way decent on it.
